Abstract

An experiment was conducted to study the bio-efficacy of nine different insecticides (triazophos 0.08 %, imidacloprid 0.002 %, profenophos 0.05 %, diafenthiuron 0.05 %, clothianidin 0.025 %, cartap hydrochloride 0.05 %, thiamethoxam 0.025 %, thiacloprid 0.012 % and spiromesifen 0.024 %) again sucking pests viz., jassid and whitefly in brinjal (GBH 1) at Main Vegetable Research Station, Anand Agricultural University, Anand during Rabi season of 2011-12. Among different insecticides evaluated, thiamethoxam, diafenthiuron and thiacloprid emerged as most effective; profenophos, clothianidin and imidacloprid were mediocre; while cartap hydrochloride, spiromesifen and triazophos were found least effective against jassid. So far whitefly is concerned, spiromesifen, diafenthiuron and triazophos emerged as most effective; imidacloprid, profenophos and cartap hydrochloride as mediocre, while clothianidin, thiamethoxam and thiacloprid emerged as least effective. Diafenthiuron exhibited significantly higher brinjal fruit yield (350.57 q/ha), whereas triazophos and cartap hydrochloride hosted significantly lower fruit yield. The minimum and maximum per cent avoidable losses were recorded in diafenthiuron (0.00) and control (55.25), respectively. The highest Net ICBR (71.83) was obtained from the plots treated with profenophos followed by thiacloprid (56.10), cartap hydrochloride (43.93), imidacloprid (39.10) and diafenthiuron (27.69).

Abstract

Field experiment was conducted on population dynamics of Aphis gossypii Glover on coriander (Gujarat coriander 2) in relation to biotic and abiotic factors during winter season of 2011-12 and 2012-13. Incidence of aphid on coriander started from 3rd week of December (51^st SMW) and continued till 1^st week of March (10^th SMW) with a peak level during 5th week of January (5^th SMW). Minimum and mean temperature had highly significant negative association with aphid incidence during first year, whereas nonsignificant negative correlation with the pest activity during second year. The morning vapour pressure had significant negative relationship with A. gossypii during first year and non-significant negative association during second year. Remaining all the tested meteorological parameters showed non-significant relationship with aphid population on coriander crop during both the years. The biotic factors, viz., coccinellids and syrphids as well as their cumulative numbers showed highly significant positive correlation with aphid population during both the years.

Abstract

An experiment was conducted to evaluate the bio-efficacy of bio-pesticides against jassid, Empoasca kerri Pruthi infesting groundnut at Instructional Farm, College of Agriculture, Junagadh during Summer season of 2014-15. The results revealed that thiamethoxam 0.01 per cent and acetamiprid 0.004 per cent were found most effective treatments against the pest. Among the bio-pesticides, combination of B.bassiana @ 1.25 kg/ha + thiamethoxam 0.005 per cent was found most effective against jassid. While the combinations of V. lecanii @ 1.0 kg/ha + thiamethoxam 0.005 per cent was found moderately effective against jassid. Thiamethoxam 0.01 per cent recorded the highest pod yield of groundnut (1344 kg/ha) followed by acetamiprid 0.004 per cent (1275 kg/ha). As far as economics of various insecticides are concerned, thiamethoxam 0.01 per cent gave the highest cost benefit ratio (1:17.82) followed by B. bassiana @ 1.25 kg/ha + thiamethoxam 0.005 per cent (1:13.96).
